Film Location Scouting in Big Bend
Angell Expeditions has been honored to help with several film, photography, and advertising projects in Big Bend. As a guide service and outfitter, we take clients into Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, the Devils River, Presidio and across the border into Ojinaga, Mexico.
We are based in Redford, along FM 170, one of the most scenic roads you’ll ever see, and work throughout the area including Lajitas, Terlingua, Ruidosa, Redford, Marathon, Marfa, Ft Davis, and Marfa, Marathon, Ft Davis, Alpine, and many places in between. The Texas Film Commission calls Big Bend the Trans Pecos.
Locations
We are permitted for Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, Devils River State Natural Area, Amistad National Recreation Area, and have access to many more public and private lands. In addition to overnight and multiday trips on Rio Grande and Devils River as well as in the mountains, we plan sunrise photography, sunset photography, night sky shoots, and blazing mid day sun shoots. Adding to the scenic beauty of the mountains and rivers, we also are known for birding and pictograph outings.
Logistics
We own our trucks, rafts, canoes, kayaks, trailers, and mountain bikes, and regularly take groups on river trips, hikes, and vehicle tours, and have the tents, sleeping bags, and catering all figured out to feed clients on multiday excursions. In addition, Charlie Angell, owner of the company has a background in construction and can assemble a crew to make that happen if your project needs it. Permitting and permissions are a regular part of the guide service, as well as coordination with local law enforcement if your project requires it.
Talent
With a decade plus working in Big Bend, we can also arrange for photographers, drone operators, videographers, mechanics, horses and livestock, law enforcement assistance, and more. Even extras; Big Bend has a thriving and eclectic arts community, though kind of spread of out over hundreds of square miles.

Selected Projects
The National Geographic Travel video called “Embracing the Unknown in Big Bend National Park” with National Geographic Photographer Filipe DeAndrade scouts for wildlife in Texas’ biggest national park. Angell Expeditions provided scouting, transport, catering, and support for this project.
Some of the clients we have worked with are GMC, PBS Wild Rivers with Tillie, and Rivian Trucks, PBS, CNN, Hulu, CW network, NPR, Carhartt, Texas Highways, Discover Channel, NHK World Japan, Voyageurs du Monde, Lufthansa, AAA’s Texas Journey magazine, and Southern Living magazine.
Catering
We are accomplished camp cooks with years of experience with multiday remote catering. The disco is a curved steel plate, kind of like a wok that originated from a farm cultivator with large steel disc blades. As they wear out for farming, they are made into a camp cooking disco and live on for decades. We can feed a few or dozens in your crew, and regularly cater for church groups and schools out in the wilderness on our expeditions.
